One Direction are a five-piece boy band made up of Liam Payne – 16, Louis Tomlinson – 18, Niall Horan – 17, Harry Styles – 16 and Zayn Malik – 17. They applied as solo candidates to the competition, but after a suggestion by Simon Cowell were put into a band -qualifying for the Groups category.
Liam had previously auditioned for the X factor back in 2008 when he reached the Judge’s House stage, but unfortunately he didn’t make it any further – some would say luckily so, as we now see him as a frontrunner to win the competition with his new band. Only once before have we seen a comeback like this, with Alexandra Burke battling back to win the competition two years after failing to make the finals.
At Simon Cowell’s house they sang an acoustic version of “Torn”, made famous by Natalie Imbruglia, and so far have made it through the first two live shows, with Simon saying after last weeks performance – “You are the most exciting pop band in the country today”. Not bad plaudits indeed!
One Direction are currently favourites to win this years competition, though are being pushed close by Matt Cardle, and the odds have been swapping over the last week or so, however the huge, growing support that One Direction have is not something to be taken lightly, and the teenage girl vote can often propel an act right the final, if not the winner.
You can back One Direction to win the competition here, and don’t forget you get a 2nd bet absolutely free!
Verdict: Final three definitely, and most likely winners.
